New Economic Development Website Launched for Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg, VA

Late last year, the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (MCDED) and the Economic Development Authority of Montgomery County partnered with Blacksburg-based NewCity to redesign and update the County’s economic development website YesMontgomeryVA.org. The redesign incorporated “best practices” identified by the International Economic Development Council and was launched late last month.
YesMontgomeryVA.org is MCDED’s primary marketing tool to attract new companies to Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg (MBC). According to Economic Development Online, 90% of site selection searches begin on the internet. Many companies and site consultants use this preliminary step to narrow down a short list of communities to solicit a proposal. Consequently, communities not making this initial cut may never even know they were considered for a particular project. To compete in today's "digital" site selection process, it is vital that Montgomery County have an on-line presence that effectively markets Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg as a highly desirable community to locate and operate a business.
YesMontgomeryVA.org also allows MCDED to market available programs and local resources to existing Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg based businesses. Many of these programs and resources can be leveraged by local companies to sustain and grow their businesses.
YesMontgomeryVA.org is organized into seven main sections, including:
- Doing Business - Provides information about operating a business in Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg (MBC)
- Available Sites & Buildings - On-line clearinghouse of available sites and buildings in MBC.
- Incentives & Programs - Highlights the wide variety of programs that MBC-based companies can leverage to assist them sustain and grow their business.
- Living - Provides an overview of our community's quality of life, including lifestyle amenities, area employment opportunities, education, healthcare, etc.
- Facts, Maps & Stats - Community accolades, demographics, business statistics and maps.
- News & Events - Hosts local economic development news feeds from various media outlets, calendar of events containing upcoming festivals and business events and links to MCDED’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
- About Us - Provides information about the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, its partners and the services it provides to existing MBC businesses and those that are interested in relocating to our community.
