ABOUT NEW RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE

New River Community College is a two-year institution of higher learning operating under a state-wide system of community colleges. The college main campus in nearby Dublin, Virginia serves the residents of the Greater New River Valley region (counties of Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, Montgomery, and the city of Radford).

STEM Center (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) | NRCC's state-of-the art instructional site located a the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg operates as a STEM Center (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and offers increased educational opportunities for Montgomery County residents.  The mall location features 14 classrooms, over 200 computers for student use, a science lab, two auditoriums, testing and conference rooms and office spaces.   The college’s Game Technology, Computer Aided Design, Physics, Engineering, and Information Technology Programming are based at this site.  Other college offerings include general education courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities, career development courses, and workforce development classes.

NRCC ACADEMICS & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

NRCC offers 6 transfer programs and 36 occupational/technical programs.  NRCC also offers professional development programs that assist individuals:  obtain their GED, obtain or retain employment, and transition into college.

TELETECHNET | Students can earn a bachelors, masters or doctorate degree from ODU at NRCC main campus. 

Adult Education | Adults receive free academic instruction and educational services to develop their knowledge and skills to pass the GED test, obtain or retain employment, and enter into college.

Middle College | helps high school dropouts ages 18-24 become a part of the workforce. Middle College students move through the GED certificate program to a NRCC certificate, diploma, or associate degree program.

Career Pathways Program | Allows area high school students  to earn college credit through NRCC.

NRCC BUSINESS RESOURES

New River Valley WorkKeys | Program established in 1998 to address the training needs of business and industry, and to build a certified workforce in the New River Valley.  The Center offers a wide range of WorkKeys programs and services for area businesses, including:

  • Profiling to evaluate the key skills and levels of competency required for specific jobs in an organization 
  • Skill assessments for students, job applicants, and/or employees to determine their current skill levels in up to eight critical skills
  • Targeted training to assist individuals in improving their skills
